It was a cold afternoon on Tuesday, March 3. The Lapan El Jardín Community Service Club divided into three teams. Some of the students worked inside learning how to pickle cucumbers. Others worked on their portfolio project with Ms. Kin. Another group worked out in the garden building a stand for the potted trees that the group started from seed inside the greenhouse. “We are hoping to have a plant sale in the Spring to raise money for a field trip,” said Aryanna, who worked with Mr. Voelkel creating the stand. By moving the plants outside the trees can acclimate to the environment, also making more room to start new seedlings inside the greenhouse where humid, tropical conditions prevail. “We also learned how to use a tape measure, a carpenter’s square, a drill, and a chop saw,” noted Yanitza. In the gardening club, you learn a little bit about everything!
