What do you want to be when you grow up? That’s the question that Cross-Age Peer (CAP) mentors have for their protégés this Spring. The next step is to contact a professional in that field for their protégé to interview. Angel’s protégé, Jasmine, a 6th grader at Hollinger K-8, is intrigued by the idea of a career in Law Enforcement. Angel, a junior at Pueblo HS, contacted the Tucson Police Department and set up an interview with Detective Matthews who came to the Lapan Center to spend an hour with both girls; answering a list of questions that they had written up in anticipation of her arrival. “I liked that Detective Matthews is a woman in Law Enforcement,” said Jasmine. “It gave me a better idea of what it might be like for me to have a career in that field.” Other students are interviewing doctors, architects, nurses, lawyers, and actors.
